Roger Kom is the Afro beat cooked in the sauce “Ben Skin” a rhythm inherited from the mangambeu, a popular folklore of the bamilĂ©kĂ© country of western Cameroon allowing to transcend the emotions of life.

Roger Kom’s compositions give an important place to the sanza (traditional African instrument) but to the violin which adds a special sound to the brass section.

He writes in pijin, the afro beat language, mixing local languages and colonial languages.

At 10, attracted by wooden instruments, he makes his own flute and at 17 starts playing the saxophone. At 20, he has the privilege to play with Manu Dibango, Fela Kuti and Tony Allen in Cameroun during Fela Kuti’s « L’AFRICA 70 » first tour. Later in Paris, he joins Kiala Nzavoutounga’s group GHETTO BLASTER, made up of former Fela Kutimusicians.

Then he will join Tony Allen’s band who will push him to create his own band.

Roger Kom played his saxophone in many albums such as « Preacher man » of the GHETTO BLASTER band, « Afro beat express » of his mentor Tony Allen, his trombone in « The Lion » of Youssou Ndour.

The « CondrĂ© Tok » album (mother tongue), uses a theme that flows all throughout the album : knowing where we’re from to know where we’re going. The education that teaches us to keep our heads high in spite of the challenges life throws at us, the « Up Down ». Education like fraternity and love in « Koungne ». Question on exode because of wars and instability in « 2002».
